Billings Pro App Reviews

Billing Pro is a solid MULTI-USER time tracking/invoicing app

I find it frustrating when Im considering an app that looks like it might meet my needs to find some good ratings and lots of low ratings with no explanation for either. So, especially because 13 people have left one star reviews without explaining themselves, I think this program needs someone to step up and talk about it who has some real world experience with it. First, although I do use it primarily for myself now, this is not meant for individuals. The program is built for multiple users. I still have one occasional user in my system, but I have used it with multiple users in the past. The app shown above is for admin users and its polished and well done for the most part. Non-admin users clock-in on a browser (Mac or PC) from anywhere they have a web connection. The web aspect of this got some gripes from one previous user. But I used it and its not horrible. Its main problem is its a bit limited. It would be nice if they had an Mac and iOS app for non-admin users (maybe in 2.0?). One reason Ive kept using it even as in individual is because I have multiple devises I work on and its easier to keep everything in sync with the Pro version. Thats the first plus Id put in the column for Billings Pro: over the air syncing. I dont know about you, but having to remember to plug my device in to sync it gets tedious pretty quickly. I already have enough to remember and, if Im out in the field working at a client, I want to have all my current info with me on all devises. With over the air syncing, I dont have to worry (too much - more on this in a sec) about whether or not my data has synced to where I need it. I will say that the sync sometimes takes a little nudging i.e. I have to manually sync a time or two to ensure the data actually goes over. But this is not that big of a deal in my opinion. It has always synced when I do the multi-sync, so I know I can count on it. This is one of the reasons I didnt give 5 stars. The invoicing feature is both a plus and a minor minus of this program. Its got a lot of great built-in templates which can be tweaked a little bit. They look very professional and I like them all for the most part. The minor minus is that if you want to tweak them more, you pretty much have to be a graphic designer. The interface is fairly complex and not intuitive. I did the best I could, but it was really challenging to make what I thought were simple changes. This is one area I think they could improve in 2.0 as well. Although its not exclusive to the Pro version, I should give a mention to the time tracking component of this as well. Many times I will arrive onsite at a clients and start working immediately. Its nice to be able to start the timer on my iPhone, then stop it when I get a break, sync, then switch over to my laptop and restart the timer. Its easier to keep notes on my laptop, so its nice to have the everything available there. When I finish for the day, I stop the timer, sync to the server and when I get home, the latest data is on my other computer. Minor mentions: The approval process is very easy for other users and alerts you as soon as the program syncs. I have a colleague who uses it with his bookkeeper and he likes it a lot. I use this on my own server with the Billings Pro Server, but the cloud sync provided by Marketcircle seems very nice from what Ive seen and its definitely simpler to configure. Overall, this is one of the best multi-user, time tracking, invoicing software for Macs on the market. Dont let the negative reviews mislead you. Its definitely worth looking at for anyone who has multiple users for whom one needs to track time/invoice. If youre unsure, go to marketcirle.com and download a trail to check it out.

Game changer!

My company has been using Billings Pro for the last few months and its done wonders to our time-tracking and billing system. We had a few technical issues initially, but customer service was very helpful in getting the issues resolved. Works seemlessly among multiple devices, too!

REFUSES TO LOAD

I downloaded this software and it has yet to load. I uninstalled and reinstalled twice and it keeps saying "loading" for over 10 minutes. Will be uninstalling. Its useless if the app wont even open.

Great software...

This is a fantastic piece of software. I saw it had low ratings and couldnt believe it. But then I came and saw that people were whining about it bc apparently they cant read. I guess the other possibility is that theyve never heard of shareware or demos. So, perhaps they just havent used a computer since…1990. It should also be noted that these people arent actually reviewing the software, they are just moaning bc apparently everything in their life isnt free. FREE DOWNLOAD IS NOT EQUAL TO FREE SOFTWARE. The software is intuitive, quick, and easy. The process is not flawless at first, but after only a few minutes, youre kicking out invoices, which is exactly what businesses need from invoicing software. Well done.

Does something very unique, and does it pretty well.

Admittedly, I prefer a software that works everytime with no problems, but that is kind of an unrealistic expectation. What won me over is that when I finally asked Marketcircle to help me get this running for four users over a network of about ten macs, they immediately responded and kept up communique with me until it was fixed. They even offered to screen share and help me even further but we got to the root of what was wrong. Customer service is super important to me and they have it. I look forward to their products improving and offering even more features and reliability, but for us, Billings Pro is really working out well. Of course what you really get from a program like this is keeping track of all your billable time which helps for estimating the kind of work that we do in the future and helps you get your times worth for the project you are currently working on. Lastly, the clients love the invoices. which is saying a lot!

great concept, horrible execution

This program is buggy. It has died on my iPhone and it has died on my iMac. The time I am keeping is too important and valuable to me to trust it to this program. Its a shame, because the idea is so cool and when it runs, it is fine. But using it is like playing Russian roulette. Fix it and Ill try it again.

Appointments and Billings Pro

My appointments are in osx/iphone calendar. I use a software workaround to create invoices based on IMPORTING my calendar appointments by client. I was hoping Billings pro would play with osx/iphone calendar. So I still like Billings Pro features, but I cant use it because it is not able to import my actual schedule. Using a different calendar program such as Daylite does not satisfy my needs.

Good Multi-user Billing software for Mac

I installed Billings Pro a few months ago. The set-up time and learning curve was fairly short. Market Circle seems to have good support for this product. My email questions were answered promptly, and they even followed up by phone. My installation is a little quirky as I run a charge-back unit at a educational institution. My only complaint and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that none of the suppied templates worked for me right out of the box, and customizing one for my needs took time, trial and error. I would like better documentation for building templates from the ground up, something that is lacking in the otherwise good documentation for this product. The time spent on customizing the invoices was well spent. I can now easily generate and send professional looking estimates and invoices. I like that once the client info is entered into the program generating new projects is very quick and easy. I can also quicly see which jobs have not been invoiced.

Was a self-serve client for years and now cloud! LOVE IT!

We have used Billings Pro since March of 2010 and it has really freed up so much of my time so I can spend it on the things I really should be doing and that is design work! It has everything I need. We are a small company and the time tracking is so valuable. Billing is a breeze. Keeping up on past due accounts are simple. Recurring accounts are a game changer because my previous software didnt have anything like that for my needs. I have had not troubles so far with the cloud version. We pay for 2 licenses and I think that price per month is a little high, but for what it does for my business and to keep the software updated and remote I am good with it!

Frustration is an understatement

I started out using Billings a few years back, and was really happy with it. The only problem I had, was that my business has 2 people and that was a 1-man program. SO - when Billings Pro came out, I jumped to upgrade, and was REALLY looking forward to the improvements in productivity, teamwork and reduced headaches. Well - that is yet to happen! And my hair is pretty much all gone... In short: - The app syncs every 5 minutes, making the timer, estimating and invoicing pretty much unresponsive for at least 2 minutes each time. Why cant it be an option to set how often (or whether to) sync automatically? It might be "vital" for a 20-man team to have it this way, but for a 2-man operation its ridiculous. (And yes, I did ask this the developer, and nothing much happened. I wouldnt think this would be that complicated to implement...) - Took me several instances of spending up to an hour each, restoring back-ups, to learn: you DONT make an Invoice while the darn thing is syncing, or Ill end up with NO INVOICE and my (valuable) SLIPS GONE BEYOND RECOVERY!!! So unless I had restored a previous days backup (takes forever) and somehow reconstructed the timed slips for the last days work, Id be in deep trouble - NOTHING TO INVOICE AND GET PAID FOR!! I finally figured out a workaround: I always have the Options Dialog open (Command + "comma") and switch it to the Blueprints view, that shows a spinning wheel next to the Sync button, and when its there, I know better than to do any Estimating or Invoicing - go do something else while His Holyness Billings Pro decides to finish a sync that was unnecessary inthe first place (2 - 20 minutes...) (I just finished timing a sync: 36 minutes...) - "Slightly" annoying was the discovery, that when syncing is happening, the timer in the menu bar tends to not register with the app, only pretends to. I.e., I click to start a timer for a job, the timer turns red, showing its on, only to discover 2 hours later, that the time has not been logged in the app at all!! Again - I learned not even to try and start a timer when Billings Pro syncs - I should add up the time I have to wait every day for the tool thats supposed to make my work faster... (and maybe send a bill to Marketcircle...) (Another recent workaround was getting an iPhone, and at least the timers on that one seem to be OK. There the major issue is trying to sync timers back and forth between phone and Mac - hoping that I wont lose more than 10 minutes when trying to exchange data between Mac and iPhone when either leaving to see a client or returning and trying to make an Invoice for the work done. - In case youre wondering, Ive spent quite some time with support, and started to feel Im considered part of their technical support team (i.e. my time and willingness started to feel like being taken for granted in trying to debug - and I was more than willing to offer help at first!) (except for getting the paycheck for it). I pretty much gave up on working with their support - its not practical in my experience, as it takes up my valuable time and doesnt get me a PRODUCT. - In trying to debug something, I was given a 1.5.6 pre-release by Marketcircle Support. Despite that, the App store keeps prompting me to update to 1.5.5. AND this was even happening when I was running 1.5.5, and updated to it from the App store... I agree that the concept of this App is beyond GREAT and Im so mad at what I perceive to be insufficient attention to user feedback and care about making it a PERFECT product (that WILL sell itself through word of mouth like wildfire), as opposed to just "selling more units".

Almost There, but Better Most

While theres multiple programs out there, Marketcircle has remained on the top of my list for business productivity and billing. Billings Pro is the next step for their Billings App, which truly made a mark in my book, allowing me to send customized, beautiful invoices to clients, and keep track of financials. Billings Pro now allows me to have staff log in from a timecard, and delegate whos able to manage financials remotely with the Server app. Their current version doesnt integrate with Daylite, its on its way. Ive stuck by this app with several iterations, and seen them address issues, resolve tickets, and provide me betas for workarounds. While the licenses are hefty, this app is for the mature, professional studio, growing from 5-10 people or more, so theres a reason to delegate users, assign projects / keep time, and have a server running. Doesnt sounds like you, but want beautiful invoices? Just get Billings. Its one user, and well worth it.

Cant delete it

The only ap I cant delete from my trash because it says I have something open.. But I cant find anything else open... And nervous that it is currupting my system.

Not as good as the old Billings

Ive used Billings for years and have always touted it as THE application for freelancers using Macs and iOS devices. Billings Touch never got updated for the iPhone 5 and I learned that the new Billings Pro was. Upon switching over, nothing works. It crashed upon migrating my data from the old Billings 3. This was due to a looping error asking for the iDisk! That hasnt existed in nearly two years now. I reopened it and only half of my Billings data came over. I tried to import it again but who knows how that works. It doesnt ask or tell you where you can find the data nor restore from an old Billing backup. I tried starting over but now when I open Billings Pro, it just sits there and doesnt nothing. Spin, spin, spin. What happened to the awesome must-have application?

Does not Support American Express to Pay

Honestly, it’s a little ridiculous that a company will restrict how you choose to pay for your subscription. In order to use the program, you have to set up as a recurring charge. But, you can’t use your business AMEX to pay for it. Extremely disappointed in the move to the billing model, and then failure to allow the user to choose how to pay. I’m not asking to barter.

Interesting App….

I recently downloaded this app for my Mac, and later for my iPhone, and have found it to be a pretty well-designed app. I’m still learning the ropes of it, but from a business perspective, if you are a small business like me, and need to time/track yourself, and then quickly send out invoices to clients, this is the best one out there to date. The invoices are quite customizable, and I really like the fact that I can time/track myself while away from my computer by using the timer on my iPhone. Thus far, on a 4S (on iOS 7), the timer has worked quite well, and the app hasn’t crashed at all while the timer is in action while making phone calls, syncing other apps, etc. You will need to read the manual for a little while to fully understand how to use the Mac app (and iOS version too), but once you’ve got the hang of it, the experience is quite good. Also, the cloud feature works very well, as I’ve had no problems thus far with syncing between the Mac & iPhone, and vice versa. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that in order to send out an unlimited number of invoices and statements to clients (which I do frequently), you will need to pay the $10/month Billings Pro server Unlimited Plan (or the $99/year Unlimited Plan) from Marketcircle. If you can get past that “caveat,” I believe you’d be good to go. Besides, when comparing that small cost to the sheer amount of money that I produce each month for clients, I believe it’s well worth it.

New Cloud Service Is Unreliable

I was a happy user of the product before they switched to their new Cloud-only service. I had to prepare an invoice today and their system was down so I couldn’t create and send my invoice. I will be switching to something else. The application itself is very good. I tried quite a few applications and hosted services before I settled on Billings. I am very disappointed to have to switch to something else, but I’d rather use something that has fewer features than one that won’t permit me to generate an invoice.

Requires a Monthly Billings Pro Cloud Subscription

Stopped support for their GOOD product, leaving us with THIS

I was a Billings 3 user since I started my business in August of 2011, and until recently the software worked wonderfully for me. A bug that Marketcircle says is an OS X problem causes random invoices to lose their ability to print after payment has been received. A very basic feature - like being able to email a “paid” invoice to a client for their records just disappears randomly. They’ve discontinued support for Billings 3, leaving me completely in the dark no matter what Mac OS X version I’m running - anything between 10.7.5 and 10.9.1, I can verify the “no print” problem has been there for some time and affects random invoices. The one bit of communication they graced me with was that “supposedly this was going to be fixed with the latest release of Mountain Lion.” But alas, it is still not working. So I attempted to change to Billings Pro (which forces you to use a cloud subscription or do your own complicated internal hosting, there is no option for a proprietor like myself to maintain one, local copy on my home office computer which wouldn’t require a “cloud” connection). When I first downloaded Billings Pro, it was supposed to detect my existing Billings 3 installation and offer to migrate my existing database for me, which never happened. After their tech support responded, they had to do a “cloud reset” on their end, clearing my new account and also resetting it with a generic password, and I had to re-install the product on my end - and this time it did offer to migrate my data. After bumping around and syncing my home office iMac and my business office Mac Pro with their cloud service, I went to sleep after updating a pile of invoices. I wake up this morning to a client’s request for a copy of their invoice from a couple of months ago, and all I get is a spinning wheel, followed by an error message “File and server not available”. I check online with their cloud status page, and it says all should be well and online. If Marketcircle is listening, I strongly urge you to reconsider development for Billings 3 - because you had a product that worked well, just needed refinement. Instead, now I’m forced to change to a completely different program because you’ve given me no options to continue using your products - you won’t fix your good product, and your new product doesn’t work. It should be mentioned that I am an I/T professional trying to make a living, and I rely on products that I don’t have to troubleshoot.

No, I don’t need this in the cloud

This use to be a handy application, basically an excel sheet with basic invoicing features, I would have paid money for it. Now its a complex, overpriced, unreliable app that tries to be too many things. Sorry, not a fan.

USed to be a good product

I run a home business and used Billings 3 for years and it was really great app for my needs. Billings Pro for me a total disaster! -Price: 199$ for 1 user very expensive compare to other apps on the market. -Cloud services: sorry after the NSA spying everywhere even if I have nothing to hide I don’t feel like my customers informations and details goes anywhere else than on MY computer. -Client-Server solution is over dimensioned for my needs. Forcing user to migrate to Billings Pro is wrong and will wait till Billings 3 stop working. Billings Pro just add a network sharing layer that could have been implemented in Billings 3. MarketCircle should pay more attention to their customer or they will loose them, just too bad I have to search another solution because Billings 3 was great Billings pro is not.
